A-Basin is not a typical ski resort. No ski village, no slopeside hotels — just some of the highest, most challenging terrain in Colorado, a legendary late season into June, and a famously social parking lot culture.
Best Time to Visit
Late Season: A-Basin's Calling Card (April – June)
By April, most Colorado resorts have closed, but A-Basin is still running lifts at 13,050 ft. The infamous "Beach" parking lot fills with skiers grilling and tailgating between runs. Memorial Day skiing is a Colorado tradition here.
Peak Winter (January – March)
Cold, dry powder on steep terrain including Pallavicini Face, East Wall, and Montezuma Bowl. A-Basin often opens as early as October or November.
Crowds
A-Basin draws heavily from Denver on weekends. The lot fills by 9 AM on busy Saturdays. Arrive by 8 AM or target weekdays.
Getting There: Nearest Airports
- Denver International Airport (DEN) — ~1.5 hours via I-70 west to US-6 over Loveland Pass (11,990 ft). The only realistic airport.
Car Rental vs. Shuttle/Transit
A car is essentially required. A-Basin sits along US-6 several miles from the nearest town. The Summit Stage bus offers limited service on certain days — check the schedule. There is no on-site lodging.
