The Highlands Ski Guide: Which Lift Pod Should You Start With?

JustSkiing TeamJuly 14, 20265 min read

Begin at Camelot 6 when progression is the priority, use the central lifts for a repeatable home circuit, and add Interconnect or North Peak only after confirming the full route back.

Last verified: July 14, 2026. The Highlands is the current resort name; JustSkiing's route still uses the legacy boyne-highlands identifier. Recheck the 2026–27 map and operations.

Three first-day decisions

Camelot 6 for controlled progression

Use the official lesson assignment and current map to pair Camelot 6 with a suitable descent. Moving beyond the learning pod should follow demonstrated control, not elapsed time.

Central terrain for the home circuit

Heather Express and nearby lifts can anchor a repeatable circuit. Confirm the exact descent and base return before treating a lift observation as a plan.

Interconnect and North Peak as extensions

Interconnect, North Face, and Renate's Express belong in a deliberate extension. Verify connectors in both directions and keep a central fallback if any link changes.

Plan the first hour

  1. Check The Highlands' official map and report.
  2. Choose one circuit for the least-confident skier.
  3. Confirm lesson, parking, and meeting locations.
  4. Verify the return before crossing pods.
  5. Recheck night access separately.

Identity and status caveats

The JustSkiing resort page preserves the legacy route so existing entity links remain stable. That does not establish historical continuity between every old and new feed row. Observations help identify components; official resort guidance controls operations.

Choose the home pod from the least-confident skier

Families and mixed groups should begin where the least-confident skier can repeat a full lap without depending on an Interconnect transfer. Faster skiers can add a separate objective and return to the shared base at a fixed time.

Interconnect is a dependency, not a destination

Crossing the resort is useful only when the route in and route back are both operating and suitable. Trace the current map before leaving the central circuit and set a turnaround time that does not depend on the last possible chair.

North Peak decision

North Peak should be chosen for terrain fit, not because it is another area to collect. Check the serving lift, complete descent, intersections, and return. If any member would need a harder trail to exit, keep the group on the working central circuit.

First-day checklist

  • Confirm the current resort name, map, and report.
  • Verify the lesson or rental base.
  • Build one complete ability-appropriate lap.
  • Choose a same-pod fallback.
  • Set a meeting place before using Interconnect.

Before travel

Refresh lift roles, tickets, pass access, lessons, parking, hours, night dates, and the day-of report from The Highlands' official map page. Use the first-time checklist and maintain an easier fallback.

Extend only from a working circuit

A successful first day does not require every pod. It requires terrain the group can ski and a reliable return.
