Plan Snowmass from the base you must return to, then choose one terrain pod. Base Village and Two Creeks are useful arrival choices, but they do not produce the same first lift or end-of-day route.
Choose a manageable first objective
| Starting point / pod | Useful orientation |
|---|---|
| Base Village | Elk Camp Gondola and Village Express provide distinct access choices. Confirm the lesson meeting point before choosing either. |
| Elk Camp Meadows | A learning-area objective reached via Elk Camp access; follow the school’s assignment. |
| Big Burn | A separate broad intermediate-terrain objective, selected from the current map. |
| Alpine Springs | A middle-mountain pod; plan the return to your chosen base. |
| High Alpine / Hanging Valley | Separate expert objectives, not a required extension of an intermediate tour. |
| Two Creeks | An arrival/return base to locate explicitly rather than assuming every descent ends at Base Village. |
A first-day sequence
Begin with a suitable repeatable lap in the selected pod. Learn the lift name and the base return before adding another area. Move only when you can identify a complete route and everyone is ready for its terrain. The large map does not require a large tour.
- Check where the lesson or rental booking actually starts.
- Save the current map offline and identify your base and meeting point.
- Check the destination lift and suitable return before transferring.
- Leave the unfamiliar expert sector for a separately planned day.
For a mixed group
Meet at a named lodge or base rather than “at the bottom,” which can mean different places. If skiers separate, each subgroup needs its own terrain and return plan. Use Long Shot / Burnt Mountain only when that longer outing fits the group.
