Ski Boot Sole Length vs. Mondo Size: What Each Number Controls

JustSkiing TeamJuly 14, 20262 min read

Mondo size and boot-sole length answer different questions. Mondo describes foot-length sizing; boot-sole length is the outside sole measurement in millimetres used when setting up bindings.

Use the right number for the task

Boot-sole length (BSL)Length stamped or specified for the actual shell/sole; used for binding setup.

Why two equal sizes can need different setups

Shell construction and sole design differ between boot models. Do not infer BSL by converting Mondo centimetres to millimetres. Even if a replacement boot has the same stated size as the old one, give the technician the new boot and its actual sole information.

  • For buying boots: measure feet and use the manufacturer’s size chart with a fitter.
  • For a rental booking: provide the requested BSL from the actual boot, not shoe size. If you cannot find it, ask the shop to identify it.
  • For changing boots: have compatibility, adjustment and function checked with the new pair before skiing.

What to photograph

Take clear photos of the model name, size marking, BSL marking and sole-standard label. Keep them with the equipment record, but bring the boot for service: a photo cannot reveal sole wear or prove release function. See sole compatibility for the standards distinction.
