Sierra-at-Tahoe's Pika and Skipper: How Do the Two West Bowl Trails Fit?

JustSkiing TeamJuly 14, 20262 min read

Pika and Skipper solve different navigation problems at Sierra-at-Tahoe. Pika is an access choice toward West Bowl; Skipper is a connection between the Clipper and Beaver areas. Neither name alone establishes that the full outing suits a beginner.

Choose the connection you need

Plan a whole lap

Start by locating your present lift, the connector and the destination on the current official map. Then identify a descent you can ski and its return to your meeting base. If one part is closed or too difficult, stay with a complete lap in the current area rather than following an unfamiliar connector until you run out of choices.

  • Check current trail ratings and signs; this guide does not assign an unverified rating to either connector.
  • Agree on a regroup point at the destination, especially when a group travels at different speeds.
  • Leave enough time to return before connecting lifts close.
  • If the map relationship is unclear from your location, ask staff before committing.

A useful first-visit habit

Use a connector because it advances a specific plan, not because it appears in a list of new trails. Ski the destination’s suitable terrain first, then decide whether another transfer improves the day.
