Treat Mt. Kirkup as an advanced ungroomed-terrain outing, not a scenic ride that automatically leads to an easy descent. Decide whether every skier can handle the snow and trees before joining the cat queue.
The outing RED describes
RED’s Kirkup product page describes a cat departure from Grey Mountain’s summit, followed by skiing toward Grey Chair or Topping Creek. The published product information still carries 2025–26 pricing and seasonal details. That supports understanding the outing, but not booking a 2026–27 departure from an old schedule.
A readiness decision
- Everyone should already be comfortable making controlled turns on ungroomed blue and black terrain, including variable snow and tighter tree turns.
- Discuss the descent and return as a group before queuing. If one skier needs a groomed escape, choose lift-served terrain instead.
- Ask staff which runs and returns are available that day, and follow the open boundary and patrol instructions.
- Carry what you need for the mountain day; do not treat a short vehicle ride as a substitute for terrain judgment.
Queue and fallback
The described service is first-come, with the whole group together in the queue. Check the current product page and staff for payment, operating days and the last departure before skiing to the pickup. If the cat is not operating or the group is not ready, continue a lift-served day on terrain everyone can descend; do not cross a closed boundary to imitate the outing.
Use RED’s peak-planning guide to choose the day’s simpler alternative.
